It’s halfway through the first month of 2019, and I think I’m finally ready to share my yearly spreads for this year’s bullet journal. I somehow lucked out and finished my last bujo right at the end of 2018, allowing me to start 2019 with a fresh, new journal. Unfortunately, I made a dire mistake in the journal selection process: I ordered it offline.
I found a few really nice ones I wanted on Etsy, but the shop owner only took payment via PayPal, and I don’t have that. So, instead, I relied on Barnes & Noble and found endlessly amazing journals, so many that it took a while to pick one. Once I did, I fatally ordered it online rather than just driving the 30 minutes to the store…and this is what I got.
I love love love the cover, but what I hate is that it’s like a paperback, not a hardback, bound journal. UGH. What have I done… It’s so flimsy. I didn’t think I’d even be able to lay it open on my desk. I bought some of those binder clips (side note: I had no idea what those were called and had to look them up–I was calling them heavy duty paper clippies) to keep the pages open while I worked on the spreads. So, it is what it is. But I’ve learned my lesson about buying blindly.
Now to get into the good stuff: my yearly spreads. First up is, of course, the legend.
My last bujo was like a beginner’s journal to bullet journaling, so it already had the legend set up with its own predetermined icons. I much preferred creating my own. Ah, yes, and another downfall of this bujo, you’ll see, is thin paper… All my highlighters and pens bleed through the pages. That bothers me more than the paperback format. I was really disappointed to see the bleed-through. Oh, well. Again: it is what it is.

Here I’ve got my year-at-a-glance all nice and blocked out and also my 2019 goals. This is the first year I’ve made “resolutions” ever since my mom stopped forcing me to. It felt good, though. I sectioned them off in different aspects of my life and even made little checkboxes to see if I’ve accomplished any of them at the end of the year. I’m excited to use it this year. Made me feel a lot more motivated.
Next up, birthdays and a yearly mood tracker.
I’ve always made a list of birthdays, but this year I tried my artistic hand and attempted to draw 12 cupcakes. I’d say it went…ok. Next year I’ll probably go back to a simpler style. I am not an artist. As for the mood tracker, this spread is new to me. I know a lot of people who do monthly ones, but I didn’t really want to draw different spreads each month (remember: not an artist). So I saw people doing a simple ‘year in pixels’ mood tracker and thought, hey, my un-artistic self can do that! So I did. And I’ve been keeping up with it pretty well, surprisingly. It’s more of a ‘how was your day?’ tracker than a strict mood tracker. I don’t have 1 emotion for an entire day. I do usually wind up having a general good or bad day, though. And then I can break that up into, okay, was it a exhausting-bad day? A fantastic-good day? and that’s been working pretty well for me.
These next two spreads you’ve seen before if you’ve seen my 2017 and 2018 spreads.
I’ve kept the same style as last year for these guys. I really just like the way they look and the way they compliment each other. My Thirty Before 30 is just that: thirty things I want to accomplish before I turn 30. Some of them I’ve actually completed the past 2 years! It’s really fun to look through every now and then and be like, whoa, I did this! And my Travel Log is pretty self-explanatory, as well. I would love to visit all 50 states before I die, and it’s slow going right now, but I’ll get there.
We’re now at the entertainment part of my bujo yearly spreads: TV and books.
If you know me, you know I love both of these things. The TV tracker helps me remember what shows I’m watching (like, seriously watching, unlike Hell’s Kitchen and other random shows my girlfriend turns on for a few seasons and then changes). As for the reading tracker, I’ve changed up the look of it this year. My Goodreads Challenge for the year is 50 books (again), which I’m really hoping to accomplish. Each time I complete a book, I write down the title and also color in a box to show in which month it was read. It will be fun to see in which month I read the most.
Okay, so. Social media trackers: pointless, or useful?
I’m not sure about this, yet. This is my first year trying them. I don’t necessarily care how many followers I have—I’m still going to post whatever I want. I find it interesting to see how much my blog grows each year, but other than that, these spreads are just for fun. I definitely care even less how many Insta followers I have. We’ll see if I keep them next year.
On to the less-fun spreads… Bill trackers and savings trackers.
I am constantly forgetting when bills are due, especially if they come out of my girlfriend’s account and not mine. This tracker not only helps me remember the dates and amounts per bill, but I can also eliminate the question, did I pay that already? Another necessary finance tracker: savings. Once my credit card gets paid off (finally), I want to start building my savings and HSA accounts. I’ve always have a good savings account, but the past few years have dwindled it unfairly and now I have to start all over. Best to do so soon.
Okay, the last two yearly spreads: a weight loss tracker and a super-useful When did I last…? tracker.
The weight tracker is probably just going to make me cry. I’ll probably just gain weight and have to add higher numbers. But oh well, we’ll see. As for the When did I last…? tracker, I saw this on Pinterest and loved it. I can never remember the last time I got an oil change or changed the water filter. This spread is going to be extremely useful.
